Now, in 2010, the family of Peter Tosh is for the first time coming out and announcing its strong support of California’s Proposition 19 and the Just Say Now Campaign to legalize marijuana nationwide, including the launch of a new video from Peter Tosh’s son Dave, intended to help mobilize voters to go to the polls November 2, and to organize supporters to call voters for Prop 19 this weekend.
Peter Tosh’s family released the following statement:
Today, as Peter Tosh did back in 1976 with the release of “Legalize It,” the Peter Tosh Estate proudly speaks out for marijuana legalization. They do this in the name of Peter Tosh, his music, and their strong belief in the power of “Yes” on California’s Proposition 19. Join them in the fight for legalization by supporting the Just Say Now campaign.
4 Days Left: Join our Campaign for Prop 19
In the video, Peter’s son Dave endorses Proposition 19:
My name is Dave Tosh, Peter Tosh has been a lifelong advocate for the legalization of marijuana. The song “Legalize It” from the album of the same name, became the anthem and the rally cry across the globe. On Nov 2nd California can help make this dream a reality, vote “Yes” on Proposition 19.
“On behalf of Just Say Now, I can say that we are deeply honored Mr. Tosh’s family is carrying on the same legacy that marked his living years: speaking up for those whose voices weren’t as prominent,” said Aaron Houston, Executive Director of Students for a Sensible Drug Policy. “He was an early pioneer not only in music, but also in speaking out for marijuana legalization.”
It is truly an honor to have the endorsement and support from the Peter Tosh family in these final days for the Proposition 19 campaign. Join us in the last four days to pass Prop 19: sign up to call young voters and put Prop 19 over the top.

oh Michael, no snark, your headline made me verklempt
mad props to all working so hard at JSN
Isn’t it amazing? Every time I watch the video, the more pumped I am to call voters for Prop 19 this weekend.
I just got my call from McNamara for prop 19… Of course I voted for it!!
w00T! Thank you!
I had a long phone convo with my girlfriend’s mother last night about why she should vote Yes. She was skeptical, but came around!
I’m Brian Wilson’s Beard and I approve this message.
I voted YES, of course. Hoping for a victory.
Did you know the hair follicle drug test was invented to screen for my drug use? Because I don’t urinate.
Jah! RastafarI!
am feeling so awful and guilty – I have had laryngitis for almost 3 weeks seriously, in my good moments I sound like Harvey Fierstein after 3 packs of pall malls
so I’m tweeting, FB’ing, mobilizing gotv ‘cells’ via personal acquaintances
I’m biting the bullet and making calls on my personal phone with my unlimited long distance. We couldn’t find a phone bank to use at short notice. And the local Dem headquarters in our county seat only has 1 frigging phone line. I forgot to ask if they had unlimited long-distance on that line.
So, wiretap ME Verizon, oh,uh “Frontier”. Frontier sounds so Treason-Scandal free. No crimes against a free
and open society here.
I am going to hit *67 first and block out my caller ID.
I have a question. Who are the people we’re calling? Are they registered voters on the “land line” list? Are they cell phone ? Will they be upset when we call or kind of glad for the reminder?
Inquirering telemarketers want to know. :]
Maybe all this is in your JustSayNow phonebank info. I didn’t want to activate it until tomorrow.
Rock on.
The British study just confirmed again that Cannabis is much safer than alcohol and hard drugs. AARP reports that more and more older Americans use Medicinal Cannabis for a variety of Medical conditions! And yet another study is proving that Cannabis may play a significant preventative role in aggressive breast cancer! Cannabis should never have been made illegal to begin with. It has been used as a medicinal plant and as a recreational substance since time immemorial. Cannabis is not physically addictive, as its use does not lead to the development of a physical withdrawal syndrome. The so-called “gateway drug” theory has been completely discredited as invalid, and declared “half-baked” by a recent large study. It is a myth, but unfortunately this particular myth takes a long time to die! At the same time it is an accepted scientific fact that Cannabis use suppresses violent behavior, which I believe is very important from the public safety point of view. It is also being proven that Cannabis may serve as an “exit” substance for recovering alcoholics/hard drug/prescription drug abusers, which has a potential of alleviating the Nation’s drug and alcohol problem. YES on Cali Prop. 19! YES to Medicinal Cannabis in all 50 States ASAP!
