I hear you JJ
&
I don't mind associating myself with the likes of T.Jefferson and the founding fathers, T.Pynchon (who called cannabis 'the useful substance'), Byron, L.Carrol, Rimbaud, Coleridge, Ginsberg, Nietzshe, Keats, Beckett, Freud, Burroughs, H.Thompson, Hemmingway, Sagan... Willie Nelson, Roger Waters, Gene Krupa, Thelonius Monk, C.Basie, Ellington...VanGogh, W.Disney, Dali...Lord Ganesh -

There is another list of pot smokers - who decided to stop - that begins here... Obama, GW&LBush & B&HClinton

leading me to the thought of the American thinker named g.singlaub who once stated..."nothing worse than a dry doper"

Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond, we have, “'We're losing the war on drugs': Nick Clegg looks within himself and unexpectedly finds a spine”

‘these dumbassed pot smokers can’t possibly be informed enough to know how narcotics reclassification works

I grew up in suburban DC (Springfield VA). Every single one of the most intellectual and informed people in my drug laced high school was a pot smoker. I was too chicken to try it until I got out of HS, but the most of the people I hung out with were "heads" because they were the highest IQ's in the schools. Needless to say, the class leaders were not, but they were basically suck-ups to the school administration and not even remotely original thinkers.

Edit: I wasn't taking you seriously acmerecords, I was expanding on your remark.

I remember an HBO special decades ago that mentioned that there is a line in the Constitution prohibiting congress from passing any laws restricting the public's access to medicines. They had to circumvent that by giving that scheduling power to the Prez to circumvent that rule. They made the case that the whole thing was on constitutional thin ice but had never been challenged due to the successful propaganda campaign starting with "Reefer Madness".

I'd swear they also said most of our anti-drug stuff was due to pressure from England, but I may be conflating some points there. (This was decades and many thousands of bong hits ago).

So did Walters point out this rescheduling power to the Mr. President? Did she ask him if he became addicted after smoking marijuana? Did she get into his marijuana use at all?

Perhaps Colorado and Washington will have to sue the bastards:

Oakland Sues Federal Prosecutors Over Medical Marijuana Crackdown

"The city of Oakland became the first known jurisdiction yesterday to sue the federal government over its attempts to shut down medical marijuana dispensaries, escalating the local-federal battle over criminalization of the drug.

I spoke too soon, as usual, Obama is dealing in weasel words:

Obama’s Pot Comments Leave Door Open For Crackdown

"remarks he made to ABC’s Barbara Walters on the topic left most of the biggest issues unresolved, leaving pro-legalization advocates concerned that the potential remains for a federal crackdown in Colorado and Washington, whose residents voted to end pot prohibition in November.

The biggest news is that Obama ruled out a widespread campaign against individual users. According to a report in the New York Times, the administration was at least considering bringing forward prosecutions against small-time smokers as a stern reminder that federal drug laws remain in full effect, so this provides some clarity in that regard.

...But the federal government doesn’t traditionally have the resources or mandate to go after minor drug offenses anyway, so it’s unclear how significant an olive branch Obama offered.

The bigger outstanding concern for legalization proponents is whether growers and distributors of pot who can now operate legally in Colorado and Washington will be targeted by federal law enforcement. There are also concerns that state officials tasked with regulating and taxing sales of the drug could face federal prosecution."
